The Firm

City-led international law firm with over 170 partners and 1,000 staff across the UK, Middle East and Asia, with leading practices in Real Estate, Corporate, Litigation, Tax, Banking and Finance, and Private Wealth. The firm is a recognised market leader in residential development and affordable housing work, making this a strong platform for candidates seeking quality of work and career progression in this space.

The Role

The firm is hiring an Associate into its Residential Sales team, which acts exclusively for developers, registered providers and local authorities (no individual conveyancing) on plot sales across new build schemes nationwide. The work encompasses residential site setup, sales packs and precedent drafting (including transfers and leases, as well as shared ownership), shared ownership sales and staircasing, and support across multi-phased, multi-tenure developments. The successful candidate will also help supervise a dedicated sales and post-sales team of paralegals and CILEX fee earners, liaise with the acquisition team on title and saleability, and contribute to business development.

The role reports to Keith Cornell (Senior Associate) and Suzanne Benson (Partner & Head of Section).

Candidate Profile

Recruiters should target:

  • Qualified solicitors with 3+ years' PQE (or equivalent) in residential development / plot sales — not general residential conveyancers.
  • Demonstrable site set-up experience acting for private developers and/or registered providers. This is the core requirement.
  • Strong drafting and negotiation skills across residential development documentation, with the ability to run a varied caseload independently to tight deadlines.
  • Commercially minded candidates with strong client care skills and an appetite for BD and supervision.
  • Affordable housing tenure experience (shared ownership, right to buy/right to acquire) is a genuine advantage but not essential — don't screen out strong plot sales candidates without it.

Positioning Notes for Recruiters

This is developer-side, volume-quality plot sales work at a firm with genuine market strength in the sector — a good move for candidates in residential development teams at regional or national firms looking for a step up in client quality, or for those wanting affordable housing exposure. The mix of technical site set-up work, team supervision and BD makes it suitable for someone building towards senior associate level.
