The business

A PE-backed services business operating across London and the South East, delivering planned and reactive services to commercial, social housing, construction and public sector clients. The business is backed by a prominent lower-mid market private equity firm and is growing both organically and through acquisition, with the aim of building a national capability.

The opportunity

This is a greenfield role. There is no legacy technology function to inherit and no committee to work through. The successful candidate will define how the group uses data and technology, with direct access to the CFO and the leadership team.

The business runs on operational know-how and a large amount of manual effort. Growth through acquisition means information sits in different places and in different formats. The first task is to bring that together. The second is to build on top of it.

As the group scales, the scope of the role scales with it, with a route towards leading a function across a much larger business.

The role

This is a hands-on position. Scoping the work with the people who do it, building the solution, and seeing it through to adoption. An external IT partner covers infrastructure and support, leaving this role focused on applications, data and process.

  • Design, build and maintain applications, workflows and automations across the Microsoft stack, replacing manual and spreadsheet-driven processes.
  • Bring data from multiple acquired businesses onto a common reporting model.
  • Integrate core operational and finance systems so information flows automatically between job management, scheduling, invoicing and reporting.
  • Build and maintain reporting and dashboards that give leadership reliable operational and commercial MI.
  • Work with operational teams and non-technical stakeholders to map processes, identify bottlenecks and scope solutions people will actually use.
  • Support system selection, implementation and standardisation as further businesses join the group.
  • Identify where AI and emerging tools can be applied practically, from document and report generation through to scheduling and triage.
  • Own delivery end to end, from requirements through to build, testing, rollout and adoption.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse) and Power BI.
  • Experience consolidating or migrating data across multiple systems or business units, including data mapping and reconciliation.
  • Practical integration experience using APIs, webhooks or middleware in a live environment.
  • Strong reporting and data modelling skills, with an understanding of data quality and governance.
  • Strong business analysis and stakeholder engagement skills, comfortable running discovery with operational staff as well as leadership.
  • Experience of system implementation, migration or rollout, ideally in a multi-site or acquisitive environment.
  • A practical, commercial mindset on AI adoption, focused on measurable outcomes rather than experimentation.
  • Comfortable operating autonomously as the technical lead.

Advantageous

  • Field service, facilities management, construction, logistics or another engineer-led, multi-site industry.
  • Field service or job management systems such as BigChange, Joblogic, Simpro, Commusoft or Salesforce Field Service.
  • Finance systems such as Sage, Xero or Microsoft Dynamics Business Central, and the flow between job completion and invoicing.
  • Telematics, vehicle tracking, or scheduling and route optimisation data.
  • Data warehousing or ETL, for example Azure SQL, Microsoft Fabric or Synapse.
  • Private equity backed or acquisitive environments, including post-acquisition systems integration.
  • Mobile or offline-capable applications for field-based teams.

What success looks like

  • One trusted source of operational and commercial data across the group.
  • Manual and spreadsheet-based processes replaced with automated workflows used daily.
  • Core systems integrated, with information flowing from job to invoice without rekeying.
  • A repeatable approach to bringing newly acquired businesses onto group systems and reporting.
