The Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Electrical Estimator to join one of the UK’s leading independent building-services contractors.

You will become part of a highly successful and established preconstruction team delivering major mechanical and electrical packages valued between £5 million and £20 million.

Projects will include prestigious high-end residential developments, luxury hotels and retirement communities. These technically demanding schemes require high-quality electrical installations, strong commercial control and close coordination between clients, consultants, designers, suppliers and subcontractors.

The company has an excellent reputation for delivering complex building-services projects and offers a collaborative working environment with genuine opportunities for long-term career progression.

Key Responsibilities

You will manage the electrical estimating process from the initial tender enquiry through to post-tender negotiations and project handover.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing tender documentation, specifications, drawings and client requirements.
  • Producing detailed, accurate and competitive electrical estimates.
  • Completing measurements, take-offs and cost plans.
  • Estimating electrical services, including LV distribution, lighting, emergency lighting, containment, small power, fire alarms, security, data, communications, earthing and lightning protection.
  • Developing tender strategies and identifying the most appropriate procurement approach.
  • Preparing subcontractor and supplier enquiry packages.
  • Obtaining, reviewing and comparing quotations.
  • Identifying gaps, risks, exclusions and opportunities within tender information.
  • Calculating labour, materials, plant, preliminaries and subcontract costs.
  • Preparing tender summaries, clarifications, qualifications and exclusions.
  • Identifying value-engineering opportunities that improve cost, buildability and programme.
  • Working closely with mechanical estimators to ensure fully coordinated M&E submissions.
  • Liaising with design, commercial, operational and procurement teams.
  • Communicating with clients, consultants and main contractors throughout the tender process.
  • Attending tender meetings, site visits and post-tender interviews.
  • Supporting commercial negotiations and tender adjustments.
  • Maintaining accurate estimating records, cost information and supplier data.
  • Assisting with the handover of successful tenders to the project-delivery team.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, manufacturers and suppliers.
  • Ensuring every submission meets the company’s quality and commercial standards.

Experience Required

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Previous experience working as an Electrical Estimator within the building-services or M&E contracting sector.
  • A strong electrical bias with an appreciation of mechanical services and wider MEP coordination.
  • Experience estimating substantial electrical packages on projects valued between £5 million and £20 million.
  • Relevant sector experience across high-end residential, hotels, retirement living, student accommodation, healthcare or major commercial developments.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical building-services systems.
  • Experience producing detailed tender submissions from drawings and specifications.
  • A broad network of electrical subcontractors, manufacturers and suppliers.
  • Strong commercial awareness and confidence working with detailed cost information.
  • Experience analysing tender risks, supplier quotations and procurement options.
  • Good knowledge of design development, buildability and value engineering.
  • Competence using estimating software and Microsoft Excel.
  • The ability to manage multiple tenders and work effectively to demanding deadlines.
  • Relevant electrical or building-services qualifications would be advantageous.

Personal Attributes

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Commercially astute and confident with figures.
  • Accurate, methodical and highly detail-oriented.
  • A confident communicator who can build credibility with clients and supply-chain partners.
  • Comfortable working independently while contributing to a wider preconstruction team.
  • Proactive in identifying risks, savings and alternative technical solutions.
  • Positive, collaborative and committed to delivering high-quality work.
  • Calm and organised when managing competing tender deadlines.
  • Ambitious and interested in developing a long-term career with a leading contractor.

What’s on Offer

  • Competitive salary dependent on experience.
  • Company car or car allowance.
  • Private healthcare.
  • Company pension.
  • A comprehensive range of additional benefits.
  • Exposure to prestigious projects valued between £5 million and £20 million.
  • Support from an experienced and high-performing preconstruction team.
  • Long-term career development within an established building-services contractor.
  • A professional, collaborative and quality-focused working environment.

This is a career-defining opportunity for an experienced Electrical Estimator who is ready to take the next step and contribute to the delivery of major, technically demanding projects.
